ScribePost for February 27, 2009

Today in math class we did "Number of the Day" which was 7298.154.

Afterwards we had a test on algebra which consists of 30 questions. Our test had questions based on pages 398, 399, and 400.

A question from the test were:

Which expression represents four less than five times a number, where the number is represented by the letter n?
a) 4 - 5n b) 4n - 5 c) 5 - 4n d) 5n - 4

And the answer was d) 5n - 4

After we corrected the tests, Mr. Isfeld gave us a balancing act problem.

Here is a video I found about tips for studying.

10. There are two more than twice as many dogs as cats in the vet. If there are six cats, how many dogs are all in the vet? Show all your work including the equation and verify and answer in a sentence .

6 Cats
6x2+2=d
12+2=d
14=d

Verify
6x2+2=d
6x2+2=14
12+12=14
14=14

There are 14 dogs in the vet.

Then when we were done correcting the practice test. He gave us another question like that to answer:
There are 2 more than half as many boys in class as girls. If there are 12 girls. How many boys are there? Show work.

12G/2+2=b
6g+2=b

Today we had to do "Number of the Day" then we had to do a Test on Algebra.

After we finished the test we had to do a balance.
The total was 50.
As you can see we didn't do very much but we still had to do something.
I would put a video,

Scribepost for february 17 2009

Today in math we did number of the day, the number was 2145.683
We did a balancing act, we had to explain how we got it.
We did some algebra, here is the equation we did :
4m-6-2m+2=m+2
2m-4=m+2
2m-4+4=m+2+4
2m=m+6
2m-m=m-m+6
m=6

Verify
4m-6-2m+2=m+2
2m-4=m+2
2x6-4=6+2
12-4=8
8=8

4w-10-w+2=w+4
3w-10+2=w+4
3w-8=w+4
3w-8-w=w+4-w
2w-8=4
2w-8+8=4+8
2w=12
2w/2=12/2
w=6

Verify
4w-10-w+2=w+4
4(6)-10-(6)+2=(6)+4
24-10-6+2=6+4
14-6+2=10
8+2=10
10=10

scribepost for february 11

Today in class we started with the test that is about transformation, coordinates, quadrants, adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, BEDMAS, fractions, decimals, percent, pattern, and algebra.

When everybody is done they have to do number of the day which was 1359.248.

After that, some of the students that are done doing the test and the number of the day did the balancing act:
Then Mr. isfeld gave us an algebra question which was 4y+12-2y+16=y+2

Scribe Post for February 10, 2009

We started off our class by doing Number of the Day. The number of the day was 7214.586. After that, we handed in our number of the day booklets for a check. We also got a chance to catch up on our provincial folder worksheets.

Some examples of the worksheets we had to finish are:

-Find as many ways as you can to represent 3/4, 1.25, etc.

-Match the correct fraction to the correct picture

-Order the fractions from least to greatest or greatest to least

Today's homework is to write an algebraic equation and solve it, for the following statement:

Daylon talked for 45 minutes in today's class. How many minutes did he work?

Make sure you study for the term test tomorrow. The test is going to be on everything we have learned since the beginning of the year, from rounding numbers to solving algebraic equations.

Scribepost for February 3 and 4

Today in math we did NUMBER OF THE DAY which was 5319.267. After we did a worksheet for our folder. We had to match pictures with the correct fraction, and we had to come up with as many ways of how to say half, 1.25, and other stuff. When we finished that, Mr.Isfeld told us to come up to him and we got to roll a dice to know what fraction we were going to do. Oh yeah i forgot to say that we also marked our homework from February 2.

I dont think there was any homework yesterday so yeah.
I apoligize for not putting any videos. I didn't know what video goes with the things we learned in math.

February 4 :

We did TLE, Linear Equations 1.
